Deathstars @ Waterfront -

The Waterfront was blacked out tonight as Goths descended upon it for an evening of dark and glamorous rock – Sweden’s Deathstars were playing and were supported by the UK’s very own Projekt. The venue was nicely full, with enough space to get to the bar and not too many tall people to stand in front of me, and because the crowd there were all fans, the whole evening had a great atmosphere....

Send More Paramedics @ WAterfront -

Tonight’s gig at the Waterfront was one in a series of last shows for headliners Send More Paramedics before they split up, so it was promising to be a good show, but before we had even got into the venue, things started to go wrong.

Gallows @ UEA -

Tonight’s gig at the UEA was already packed by the time I got there, despite the £15 door charge, mostly with younger people (younger than me that is) with scarves (not the woolly kind) and floppy fringes – you know what I mean and so did the first band, FSS. They took the piss out of Emo kids and played a good punk-hardcore set, reminiscent of The Exploited...

Medina Lake @Waterfront -

The first thing that struck me about tonight’s gig wasn’t the music or the band’s stage presence but the crowd – the Waterfront was filled with teenage girls. I can’t think of a more inappropriate name for a band at the moment than ‘My American Heart....

Rolo Tomassi – Hysterics (Hassle Records)

I’m going to admit it straight off, I have no idea where to start with this band. Initially they sounded like heavy metal Bjork, then came the hardcore and then the nu-rave-esque bleepings. So very confused. Plan B Magazine got it right when they called them ‘indescribable’..."

Drill – The Last Taboo of America (Saturate)

This album is the first release for 13 years from Newcastle's 'Drill' – a band I feel guilty for not knowing. It is called a mini-album as it only has 6 tracks but is half an hour long, with the opening lasting only a minute. With its almost bare inlay and simple cover, which on closer inspection appears to be a heavily distorted New York skyline..."

Attack! Attack! – Attack! Attack! (Rock Ridge)

For a minute I think I've been sent the wrong CD – I specifically said “no Fall Out Boy”, but this is the debut album from a new band 'Attack! Attack!', unfortunately something this album does not do. Then I discover they're from Wales as well. Great, another band that sing like Americans..."
