London Film & Comic Con
Saturday 18th July -

Was heading down to london today to meet up with an old friend of mine, She'd asked me to do some presenting work for her blog on the SciFi channel at the 2009 Film and Comic Con the next day and I of course said yes.

She met me at Clapham Common station, near her house, and we went for some drinks. First to a new bar called Ink Rooms which was decorated with huge murals of traditional Sailor Jerry style tattoo flash, there was even tattoo themed wallpaper downstairs. They had my favourite lager, Czech Budvar, on tap and the dj started playing an eclectic mix of music, including The Presidents of the USA and Blondie. After a couple there we headed for somewhere a little heavier as down the road there was a rock bar called Project Orange.

The décor wasn't as clear as the first bar, this one combined heavy metal with Tiki masks, camo netting and palm leaves. A couple more beers in there and we headed home via the chip shop. We probably should have gone home earlier seeing as we had to be up at 7.30am....

Sunday 19th July -

As my alarm went off this morning I had almost forgotten where I was as my dreams had been filled with Darth Vadar and R2D2. Today I was going to the London Film and Comic Con and I was a wee bit hungover in my producers spare room. After tea, toast and vitamin C we were ready to face the day and caught the bus to Earls Court where we met the two camera men, one of whom i had worked with on Rockworld. After chatting, reminiscing and finally setting up we did some intros, surrounded by Storm Troopers and Harry Potters, and went into the venue.

The place was huge (i've never been to Earls Court before) and had stalls selling merch and comics, full size Daleks, photo booths, an area for the 'talks' and a line of celebrities at the back waiting to sign autographs (for a small fee). I interviewed Danny John-Jules, who I had been a fan of for ever from his Maid Marian days and then in Red Dwarf I loved his Cat character and he was so bubbly and lovely. Then I spoke to Chris Sarandon, the voice of Jack Skellington, and he made my day by being gracious and eloquent, Dominic Keating was charming and Robert Rankin became my new celebrity grand dad with his pointy moustach, fob watch, waistcoat and sense of humour (right).

I also met Kenny Baker, the man inside R2D2 (!!!), and was dead chuffed. After some more interviews and pieces we had been there 8 hours almost and decided to go home. Thank fully the trains were fine and as I got home I had a beer waiting for me. Keep an eye out for the finished program on the Sci-Fi website and channel!!!
