I recently hosted Club Antichrist's 'Not New Year's Eve' event. I had a blast and they've invited me back to do it again!
My outfit was made by Rubber Monkey Latex, it had little black bows with studs on and shined up a treat! It was not so great though when the venue began to fill up and the temperature rose. Latex is the worst material for staying cool in hot clubs (or keeping warm waiting for cabs!).

After the cab driver tried to rip us off (£15 for a 2.5 mile journey at 9pm? I don't think so. We argued him down to £7, haha!) we grabbed a drink and checked out the huge Coliseum venue before I had to start work. During the sound check i discovered there was no way I was going to be able to get on and off stage in my outfit without assistance so my poor fella had to help me on and off every time!
Among others I introduced alternative cabaret singer Joe Black, death punk band Generation Graveyard and my personal favourites AlterRed.
Mr. Black did more cover songs than I thought he would but was highly amusing and even had a member of the Tigerlilies guesting on stage with him playing a saw! He was actually staying in the same hotel as me, I saw him having a cheeky smoke outside when I finally got in a cab home and he gave me a little wave. He looked tired poor boy!
I'd never seen AlterRed live but had reviewed their album for Dominion Magazine and they were awesome. Lead singer MikEy looked very dapper (where did you get that shirt from?) singer Tim Minchin style with no shoes on and his gothic dollies who stood barely moving on either side of him throughout the whole set looked fab. I think I would have passed out after that long!
One of the members of Generation Graveyard is actually my fashion spread buddy in Dominion, the one wearing the red cyberdog outfit. Small world huh?
After my job was done (at about 2am) we had a little dance in the other rooms and got chatting to some lovely folks. It's such a friendly atmosphere, people are quite happy to chat to complete strangers.
As soon as I was in bed I was asleep, good thing really as we had to be up relatively early to catch our train home for the real New Year's Eve! A nice quiet one in - party food, bubbly and my pj's. Perfect! |
